Shortly after the El Paso and Dayton shootings, several politicians, naturally, blamed violent video games, which are known for being easy scapegoats for violent crime. In response, plus one of the shootings occurred in a Walmart, the CEOs at Walmart instructed the employees to remove anything to do with violence. While this also consisted of hiding shooting and hunting videos in the Sporting Goods department as well as violent movies in the electronics department, this also meant getting rid of standees and demos of violent video games, including Xbox One and PlayStation 4. However and hypocritically, the store chains still sold guns prior to October 2020, where they were removed due to "civil unrest."
