RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures is a construction and management simulation game developed by Nvizzio Creations and co-published by Atari, and RCTO Productions for the Nintendo Switch, later being released for Microsoft Windows via Epic Games Store.

It is currently the first and only entry to be released by Atari for Nintendo Switch, and is one of two entries in the franchise to be released on the system, the other being a port of RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 by Frontier.

Why It Sucks

  1. Rather than being funded in-house by Atari like previous games in the franchise, Atari instead sought to crowdfund the game via StartEngine and advertised it through a very patronizing campaign pitch, though this was scrapped as the campaign received universal backlash.
    • While crowdfunding in general may not a bad idea, the execution for the campaign was flawed, with the terms being the minimum of a $250 donation in exchange for a chance of a small percentage of the profits. And what's worse, the campaign pitch video for it literally states in the first 30 seconds that Atari has made over 2 billion dollars from their game franchises, yet never explains why they decided to crowdfund in the first place. Atari later stated it was an experiment to see if such funding could be done for future games.
      • However, it can be explained by the company's massive deficit following their 2013 bankruptcy which forced them to sell most of their development studios, reducing them to a small studio, and the disastrous failure of RollerCoaster Tycoon World further worsened Atari's financial situation.
    • You would not be given a copy of the game for your investment. With a $750 donation, you would receive a 25% discount on the game upon its release. A $1500 donation would entail that same 25% discount, as well as a copy of the regular edition of the book, The Art of Atari.
    • Finally, the crowdfunding included an Irregular Use of Proceeds clause stating that the invested money may be used for "Vendor payments and salary made to one's self, a friend or relative; Any expense labeled "Administration Expenses" that is not strictly for administrative purposes; Any expense labeled "Travel and Entertainment"; Any expense that is for the purposes of inter-company debt or back payments." In the other words, Atari stated that they will not using all of these crowdfunding money for the development of the game but using it for their own personal uses.
  2. False advertising; The game was advertised as a new, next-gen title built from the ground up for Nintendo Switch, until it was eventually revealed that it was nothing more than an HD port of RollerCoaster Tycoon Touch, a pre-existing freemium mobile game.
  3. Difficulty is non-existent. Nothing in the game has management or upkeep costs, meaning that once you put a ride or shop down, it will always generate revenue.
  4. The game was filled with bugs and glitches at launch, some of which still have not been fixed.
  5. Extremely long loading times.
  6. The frame rate can drop to single digits depending on the size of your park and the amount of NPCs currently in it.
  7. Many of the series signature scenarios have been simplified for a younger audience, and as such, are too easy in certain instances, and there are way fewer than in previous installments.
  8. The launch price for the game on Switch was $49.99, which is very overpriced for a game that's technically a mobile port.
  9. The coaster track construction is a mess. No chain lifts or special track sections, the coasters have no trouble going up inclines, obstacles are nonexistent, the track can clip through scenery, as well as its own track, and the Switch controls are imprecise.
  10. The coaster trains don't stop at the stations, and the riders are modeled as part of the cars, so the coaster always appears full, even when it isn't actually carrying passengers.
  11. You have very little freedom when it comes to the customization of your rides and attractions.
  12. The game only has around two or three songs, and it alternates between them randomly.


The game received mixed-to-negative reviews from critics and players at launch for its high launch price, large amount of bugs, limited amount of content, and lack of marketing, some fans are sad to see the franchise will meet deadline.

It is considered by many as one of the worst Nintendo Switch game of all time.
