Philip Paul Burnell, shortly Phil Burnell (born: April 6, 1982 [age 38]), also known as DarksydePhil, DSPGaming,, and KOGaming, is a YouTube video gaming personality that is best known for doing Let's Plays with live commentary and combating SOPA. Due to constant trolling and negative backlash towards most of his videos, he has been given the nickname "The King of Hate" and has a cult following. He also has a website which was taken down at one point, but his fans helped him bring it back.

He has developed a reputation as one of the most hated Let's Players/Live Streamers on YouTube and Twitch for various reasons listed below, and he still gets mocked and parodied to this day.

Why He And His Videos Suck

  1. Despite playing video games for more than 20 years, and being a Let's Player/Streamer, Phil is notoriously horrible at games. Among his worst attributes as an LPer is his inability to play games competently. Instead of acknowledging and learning from his mistakes, he'll bash the game for presenting any kind of challenge, not having a tutorial to "explain everything", or simply lacking a few checkpoints here and there. Despite proclaiming his passion for gaming, his attitude towards the medium, and the developers of the games he plays suggest otherwise, as he doesn't give any real insightful commentary, and he has a tendency to rage quit certain games, like he infamously did with Persona 3 on easy difficulty for example.
    • Speaking of commentary, if he doesn't bitch about every little thing in the game, he simply live calls what you, the viewer, just saw seconds ago. He has had moments where he is completely silent (which leads to complaints that the stream is boring), only occasionally broken with a yawn. If he starts singing though, it's the worst thing ever; viewers describe his singing as unnecessary, uncharismatic, and tone deaf. His singing during the City Race in Jak II is on par with CyanidePlaysGames's awful rendition of Shut Up by The Black Eyed Peas.
      • Not to mention, he has a disgusting habit of snorting and belching directly into his microphone with no attempt to cover it up whatsoever. This almost gives off the impression that Phil does it on purpose just to piss off the people watching. When people complain about this filthy habit, he responses by telling them to either put up with it, or leave.
    • Because of his refusal to learn game mechanics, plus his over reliance on fixed AI patterns, he never learns from mistakes he makes in games and often repeats them. An example of this is failing to defeat Kaiser Sigma in Mega Man X3 when he repeatedly misses the boss' weak point and does his "tried-and-true" strategy of trading hits with bosses. He ended up rage-quitting the game because of this. (Along the lines of: "I did the exact same thing as before, now it doesn't work! Wow, consistent!").
  2. Phil completely lacks even the most basic problem solving or critical thinking skills, best demonstrated by his playthroughs of Catherine, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and Bully: Scholarship Edition. He tends to miss or ignore easy, or even obvious solutions to whatever predicament he is in, or he makes his time much harder than he needs to by over-thinking certain things. Another example of this is him floundering around for a half hour on Batman: Arkham Asylum when all he had to do was use the Line Launcher he obtained to progress, or something as simple as throwing a grenade into a window in Grand Theft Auto III (which he missed the hint textbox for) or by refusing to take the Jet Board in Crash Bandicoot 2 despite it being necessary to finish the levels it appears in (those being Hang Eight, Air Crash, and Plant Food). He is also a terrible strategist; for example, when playing a Persona game, for some reason his character's agility stats seem to be abnormally low, causing most of his attacks to just outright miss, much to his frustration.
  3. Phil often doesn't pay attention to certain key details in games and is prone to wasting time wandering around aimlessly, unsure of where he's supposed to go, or what to do, even when the game outright tells him what he is supposed to be doing. Sometimes, when he figures out or looks up these mechanics, he claims that they're "bugged game mechanics", when in fact they're actual game mechanics. For example, he claimed that the crouch-jump was a bug during his playthrough of Black Mesa. Phil has even had trouble simply navigating menus; in his playthrough of FIFA 12, he spent 25 minutes just trying to start a match! He struggles in 3D platformer games, where he even has trouble with understanding basic platforming mechanics. This can be seen in the first Sly Cooper game, where it takes him over ten minutes to finally get past a hook in the second world of the game.
  4. Sometimes he resorts to cheating when playing games or using cheap tactics and/or known exploits to get past parts that he gets stuck on, feels is unfair, or that he thinks that the game is cheating to make him lose. In his Grand Theft Auto III, San Andreas, and Liberty City Stories playthroughs, he used cheat codes to cheese the final portions in those games. He once spent about an hour in Scarface: The World Is Yours using the "FULL BALLS" CHEAT 478 TIMES to try and speed through the remainder of the game! If you're curious, he ended up rage-quitting that game. He also looked up maps to pass geography classes in Bully, and abused an oversight (you can pause the game during timed classes) to give himself more time to finish classes in the same game.
    • Phil has also shown that he is not above abusing glitches/bad AI to cheese parts of the game; a couple of years back, during his playthrough of Super Mario Odyssey, after being fed up with failing so many times during the Darker Side of the Moon segment of the post-game (one of the hardest parts of the game), he resorted to using the well-documented "Frog glitch" to completely bypass it. In his Dead Rising playthrough, when his stream chat was telling him to use a gun against the second Carlito fight, he calls it cheating, yet he ends up cheesing the fight anyway after Carlito's AI got stuck in a storefront, and does the same later on against Cletus.
  5. Phil has become notorious for his E-begging; not a single stream of his nowadays ever goes by without him mentioning his financial troubles, nor him begging his viewers to tip him at every turn, despite his desperate attempts to deny it by saying this is normal behaviour for streamers. Phil has been known to use very manipulative language to squeeze extra cash from his viewers, by giving constant reminders that the tips goal isn't reached, or the stream is about to end, etc. He even tried to compare receiving tips on stream to a waiter/waitress receiving tips in a restaurant.
    • That analogy is flawed for a couple of reasons: for one, wait staff often try to provide the patrons an experience that the customer would want to return for without asking for it. The other reason is that most servers don't feel the need to burden their customers with their problems to gain sympathy bucks, nor do they feel the need to constantly pester them with reminders to tip them for their service. Phil not only doesn't even try to put out enjoyable content that deserves a solid tip, but he is always pestering his viewers to give him money even if he didn't earn; he expects maximum profit for next to zero effort on his part.
  6. Selfishness and Greed: even if Phil makes his Patreon or tips goals, somehow this isn't good enough and will either berate his views for failing him, or demand them to step it up. His greed cost him his friendship with John Rambo in the past when he used the earnings from Project 7 to buy luxury items instead of splitting the profits evenly. Phil is known to use other people's deaths to make a profit, and has done so twice; once when a mutual friend of Howard's passed away, the second after Etika committed suicide, making monetized videos on them. He will use every possible avenue to extort money from people by asking for well over $1,000 to do playthroughs of certain games, and he almost never lives up to his goals, such as cutting off Crash Bandicoot 2 (which he'd already got $1,250 for) and asking for another $1,250 just to finish the game, and that time he was meant to reboot his series, Project 7, hitting the Patreon goal only to pocket the cash without offering refunds, as well as putting games up behind a paywall in exchange for large sums of money before playing them. He even extorted over $2,000 out of his fans just to reveal his pet cat. He also put expensive and redundant items on his Amazon Wishlist (mostly gift cards for all 3 major console storefronts). When asked by fan what they would get from giving him money, Phil once responded by saying that he gets to continue doing what he "loves" and having fun. This shows that Phil only cares about his own bottom line, and does not care about giving back something to his fans, and that everything is always about him in his mind.
  7. Phil is incapable of taking responsibility for his own actions; if his first instinct isn't to point the finger at someone when something goes wrong in his life or career, then he will either make weak excuses for it, or just flat out deny any and all fault at every possible turn. He has demonstrated frequently that he cannot do anything for himself, either in games, or in real life, having either his fans pay for his lifestyle for him, or have his parents bail him out, respectively. He once claimed that he doesn't look up solutions to games when he played Metal Gear Solid, despite doing so on a regular basis after this, demonstrating that he also cannot do anything for himself without assistance. He always blames his detractors for his inability to get sponsorship offers, unaware that his own toxic behaviour is the real reason this is so.
  8. The way he treats his fans is horrendous, like banning them just for not sharing his opinions, lying to them constantly, blaming them for poor viewership, and even psychologically manipulating them into giving him more money. Sometimes, his treatment of fans can be outright abusive, like when they say anything that remotely takes attention away from him as he rambles about his own problems, such as the infamous Wardogleader encounter. Instead of doing the decent thing and talking to him, he made blind assumptions and accused him of trolling (on stream no less), and blatantly told his viewers to "go fuck themselves" if they tried to defend the fan in question. Even asking a simple question can result in Phil slinging insults at you if it isn't about praising him or his content, often followed by a swift ban!
  9. One of the biggest problems with Phil is his venomous personality and attitude. He acts narcissistic, cocky, arrogant, abrasive, condescending, entitled, and defensive towards anyone he interacts with. Not helping Phil is his non-conformist attitude. He is very foul mouthed and not just uses swear words for the sake of using them, but as noted through here, he also uses them to verbally insult people. He also uses racist, sexist and homophobic slurs. Sadly, swearing is the main basis of his "wit", usually based upon how often he swears at any given moment, like in DuckTales Remastered after the game locked up without him saving the game, Phil spent the next part raging and swearing constantly in a grating fashion came across so forced, that his fans saw right through it and fled his channel as a result. His laughter is grating, obnoxious, and incredibly forced, another trait of his that gets mocked a lot. The way he uses certain words and phrases like "positivity" or "we hit our goal" sounds eerily similar to what a cult leader would say.
  10. Entitlement: despite producing low quality content for over a decade that would've been laughed at even in 2008, Phil believes that he should reap maximum profit for his "work" despite his unwillingness to put forth any kind of effort to earn it. As further evidence of this, he made a whiny, immature rant about how his parents were "fucking stupid" when they didn't buy him a Wolverine action figure (which he later got anyway) when he was 15 years old. Despite him previously saying he "doesn't want to be Mr. Views," he has either hold off or quit playing some games outright, and in rare cases, got angry when fans pointed out the reasons for it; case in point, his playthrough of Pokémon Moon, when he lashed out at his viewers for poor attendance (less than 400), goes so far as to call them lazy. He believes his veteran status on YouTube entitles him to all the benefits.
    • In addition, Phil has outright stopped playing games altogether if can no longer profit off of the game in question. Particularly when Atlus issued a copyright strike when Phil ignored their warnings and streamed Persona 5 past a certain, causing him to throw a tantrum, remove his playthroughs of Atlus games, and temporarily boycotted them because of it. He even threw his Wii U in the garbage when Nintendo prevented content creators from profiting off their products. He has even "Wage Quit" games that bring in low revenue.
    • In the few times that Phil has run polls pertaining to what his fans want to see him play next, he often gives his fans the middle finger by disregarding the results of the poll and instead playing the game he wanted to play, whether the fans wanted it or not. If a fan presses him for it, he gives a pathetic excuse as to why he won't play it, or at least put it off.
  11. His non-gaming videos are just as poor quality as his gaming videos: Phil has two abandoned series on his old channels, being "DSP Tries It" and "(Poorly) Cooking with the King". The former is a series of product/food reviews, but most of the time, it's just him and Panda Lee fooling around (going off topic) or Phil demonstrating his atrocious eating manners (see his review of Jack in the Box's Garlic Cheddar Buttery Jack Burger as an example of this), while the latter is Phil over-complicating the most basic meals, showing poor hygiene, poor filmography, and using low quality ingredients.
  12. It is apparent that Phil is paranoid, as he always feels like a detractor is waiting to beat him up if he attends conventions, is very afraid of EvilAJ2010 for some reason, and is afraid of being martyred when he does confront someone with a larger following than he has on social media. He even gave the excuse that detractors would "dox the wedding" or "break into his house and harm his cat" to justify lying about those events. He'll give crazy theories (that even believers in the Illuminati would find ridiculous) as to why detractors hate him and what their lives are like with no knowledge there content, or intentions. Infamous examples include his "7 Years of Slander" video, and his ill-informed assumptions about prominent detractor, Almighty Tevin.
    • Ever since he married Kat, he has started avoiding missions in games (or games in general, in the case of Fire Emblem: Three Houses) that have anything to do with romance and has stopped making sex jokes relating to women. Whenever he's asked about this, he states that he “doesn't need those sorts of things in games” since he's married and brags about how much of a "mature adult" he is (despite evidence to the contrary). Many of his viewers and detractors, however, speculate that something else might be going on between Phil and Kat behind the scenes that's responsible for this change in behavior and have called him "whipped" as a result. There are rumours circulating that he and Kat got divorced shortly after they got married, but this is not confirmed, nor is there proof of this.
  13. Pure Laziness; he can't be bothered to edit his playthroughs because he believes that his audience wants "raw, unedited" video playthroughs of games. In reality, it's because it requires almost no effort on his part, and to milk the monetization system dry. As a result, Phil's content has a load of filler in it. Compounded by Phil's inability/refusal to adapt to new trends or more convenient methods of video making, or just being years behind everyone else. Phil firmly believes it is up to his viewers to carry the stream and keep him entertained, when it's always the other way round.
    • His Quantity over Quality mindset, where he has over 56,000 videos on his channel, most of them just being unedited, 10 minute clips masquerading as videos. For some reason, he believes this makes him better than everyone else on YouTube, and will throw it in your face when he gets the chance.
    • His pre-streams tend to be extremely long, usually clocking in at least an hour and a half long! The reason is because he rambles on about nothing important at length to pad out the stream for as long as possible. In fact, he does this all the time; his "podcast" explaining the circumstances surrounding his recent wedding was padded out from what should have been 20-30 minutes tops, to THREE HOURS. Split into 3 one hour videos for good measure! Some viewers get the impression that Phil does this because he likes the sound of his own voice.
  14. He is a hypocrite in denial; to put it in laymen's terms, everything he condemns everyone else for, he is guilty of doing the exact same thing. When he's called out on his hypocrisy, he will make flimsy excuses for why it's fine when he does it. He'll also flip-flop on certain opinions he has, like praising a game at the credits after bashing it for the entire playthrough beforehand, or bashing the voice acting, even if he originally praised it in the same playthrough! He'll even call unemployed people "low loads" like he has any moral high ground (considering he himself hasn't worked a proper job in more than 10 years), and condemn other creators for receiving special privileges from game publishers like early copies of games, when he has received such privileges himself. Phil is known to bash other content creators for often trivial things, and will chide others for being greedy and abusive to their fans (even when that isn't the case) without any kind of self reflection.
  15. Phil is extremely nasty to anyone he interacts with. He insults his fans, other people, games, game developers, Twitch streamers, and anyone else he dislikes. He'll even insult the fans of whatever game he's playing if he's in a particularly bad mood. He once threatened a YouTube user called BeAwesomeOne (who is known for criticising Phil) by threatening to dox him. He firmly believes that people who don't like him are "mentally ill", and claims people are "nosy, vile, disgusting, toxic pricks" if they spread his personal info around, despite him willingly sharing said info without any provocation. Oh yeah, this includes fans who get fed up of Phil's crap and choose to leave. Then there are his vitriolic "opinions" on voice actors like Troy Baker...
    • He has frequently gone off on far more successful content creators like Pewdiepie and Dr. Disrespect. Whatever you may think of these chaps, it is easy to see that Phil is totally jealous of them, since they not only have the following and success that Phil wishes he had, but they also have entertaining personalities that keep their fans coming back for more. He also feels the need to build himself up by putting other creators down, showing that he has some real insecurities about his own content. Protip: if you have to keep telling yourself that you're better than everyone else, 9 times out of 10, you're not.
  16. He is a complete coward, often backing away from direct confrontation on social media, having comments disabled on all of his future Youtube videos as of September 2017, banning people only to mock them after the fact, and making excuses to back out of podcasts at the last minute. If confronted in a game however, and they start mentioning stuff Phil doesn't want to get out there, his first instinct is to either exit the lobby he is in, or mute the chat. He will even flee from a lobby when he catches sight of a well known detractor, under the assumption that said detractor is actively pursuing him. In late 2019/early 2020, Phil was invited to appear on the Drunken Peasants podcast, only to then turn around and wimp out claiming to "protect his wife from detractors", essentially using her as a human shield.
  17. His former girlfriend, Panda Lee, was a major detriment to his content, as she would troll his fans constantly, argue with them, make annoying sounds, and generally act like a total nuisance. It got to the point where Phil punished his viewers for arguing with her, even though she was the one who sparked the fire in the first place when she bashed the Kingdom Hearts series during Phil's playthrough of the first game in the series.
    • Having said that, his wife, Kat, isn't much better; in the very few times were she appeared in Phil's videos, she is just there, with the energy of a wet towel and barely says a word. For whatever reason though, when she is asked a question by viewers, Phil constantly talks over her, speaking on her behalf. It is very clear from the videos featuring them both that the relationship is as lifeless as it gets; there is no romantic chemistry between them, and Phil would often flaunt her like she was some kind of prize or trophy, but these days barely ever addresses her by name, and would frequently use her as an excuse not to do something fans may request; as mentioned in point #16, he uses her as a human shield.
  18. He infamously masturbated on camera during a livestream (due to the fact that he left his webcam on during an intermission, which he didn't realize until he was finished), subsequently becoming an internet laughing stock. On his tweet, he claimed that he was "scratching his legs". Despite this claim, he proceeded to ban people talking about it, only to soon decide to embrace this event once he realized that it temporarily brought him increased publicity, thinking that it could also increase his income. Because he got a large spike in viewership from this, there is speculation that he whacked off on stream on purpose. The incident also showed Phil's poor acting ability as well.
    • He also name-dropped Keemstar after the video of him masturbating was featured in his DramaAlert episode. Due to his cowardly behavior after this infamous moment a year later, during his Friday the 13th: The Game online playthrough, while the other players were making fun of him about masturbating on his stream, he immediately switched voice party into his own private party to mute their voice chat.
    • This happened AGAIN in February 2018. Even though Phil (thankfully) turned his camera off, his microphone was still on. He claimed that he was just "stretching" and then he goes on a short rant to chastise viewers that pointed out that he was doing it.
  19. He is extremely arrogant, claiming to be one of the best gamers in the country, despite evidence to the contrary. Notably, he believes himself to be the best Street Fighter player in the U.S. because he placed 4th in a tournament (which used a broken port of Street Fighter II), and he used Akuma, who was soft-banned. Phil originally got the nickname "The King of Hate" because of his behavior during fighting game tournaments he participated in, (trash talking, crying when he loses, poor sportsmanship, etc.) though he claims that he got it because of his "honest" and unpopular opinions. One example is after being disqualified from a tournament for his rude behavior, Phil rudely tells the tourney official that he can run the tournament better than him. He actually believes he has talent and his content has more substance than the likes of Pewdiepie, and feels he is above trending games like Fortnite (regardless of how you feel towards that game).
    • He also loves to gloat about "outlasting" other content creators and organisations, like when Machinima went under; Phil made a pretentious tweet about how "Machinima died" and he outlasted them. The way he said it implied that he thinks they deserved to go under like that because they terminated his 6+ year partnership with them (even though he was the one who forced their hand by getting gobby with them in the first place). The tweet in question has since been deleted, likely due to backlash... again!
  20. He shares his personal life without caring about the consequences of doing so. His pre-stream videos can be over an hour long because he rambles on at length about his life. He even uploaded a video of himself taking a shower while reviewing AXE Body Detailer + Body Wash. He also uploads of himself eating unhealthy foods with his "DSP Tries It" videos to disgust viewers with his eating habits on-screen, or demonstrate his poor cooking skills in his "Poorly Cooking with the King" series.
  21. Phil's financial management is also questionable; he is always begging and prodding his viewers to send him money, and always claims to be in danger of losing his house, yet he takes vacations in lavish hotels, buys expensive gaming memorabilia, rents luxury cars like a BMW, and generally spends money recklessly. This aspect is relevant because it has manifested in his gameplay as well, particularly when money and item management are essential to performance. Whether he wastes his bolts on health rather than weapons in Ratchet & Clank, or burning through every Ink Ribbon he had in the first couple of hours in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, his inventory/currency management is rather sketchy at best.
  22. Phil is extremely thin-skinned, and cannot take even the slightest bit of criticism, going as far as issuing false copyright claims against people who uploaded "This Is How You DON'T Play" videos, which he ironically cries foul over since he was a victim of them himself in 2015. A good example of this is during the Spider-Man (2000) playthrough: DSP will bash the fans of games, and when he is called out on it, he flat out said "he didn't read the criticism."
    • That "7 Years of Slander" video we keep mentioning? Well, it was very poorly received simply because he didn't refute any of the accusations made against him over the years, instead just dismissing everything by saying those things never happened. And since Phil tends to be quite the revisionist when talking about the past despite videos on his channels still being up, it is impossible to take Phil's word on anything he says. In addition, he actually believes his own lie that he isn't really hated, and that those who do only do so for clout. He insists frequently that he has grown and matured over the years, but it doesn't take a genius to see that that is also a complete lie.
  23. He has shown signs of being pro-SJW. Back to the situation with scandals over Zoë Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian, he made a video complaining about GamerGate, with all of his statements being really poor, and in typical DSP fashion, circles it back to make it about himself, as well as just being a very poorly researched video in general.
  24. He is a habitual liar. Many times he has tried to rewrite his own history even in the face of damning evidence that says something different. When he talks about haters, he always claims that the things they say are either slanderous or exaggerated, even though the evidence they present usually comes directly from Phil's own mouth, and is based on what he says and does.
    • An infamous example is his Halloween stream: he made a follow-up video "explaining" why Kat wasn't there anymore, which was nothing but him blaming Almighty Tevin for sending trolls over to his stream to troll her. Not only is there no evidence of this (as usual), but he outright lied about it; there is video evidence of him acknowledging that Kat wasn't going to stick around for the whole stream anyway since she had other things to do that day.
  25. Phil has a tendency to go off on pseudo-intellectual rants about various topics to give the impression that he is smarter than he actually is. For example: in June 2018, Phil did a livestream talking about depression, claiming that he had it and tried to blame 10 years of poor online behavior on depression, even blaming it for his "paid shills" tweet several weeks prior. The day after the livestream, a subscriber on the stream chat was showing signs of depression. Phil mocks him and says he's trolling; probably making the person feel worse about his depression. Because he mocked someone with depression, he basically showed everyone that he himself doesn't have it, especially considering he knew little about it, even called it a disease as opposed to a mental disorder. He also mocked the people who tried to correct him.
    • A better example is his whole spiel about Bluetooth technology during his livestream of Crash Bandicoot 3 (N.Sane), and blaming that for his poor performance in that game. He tries to blame other "Bluetooth" devices in his room for "dropping his inputs" in the game, which include a TV remote and a wireless mouse. His rant is completely false since a TV remote uses infrared signals, and a wireless mouse uses Radio Frequency (RF), therefore do not share the same frequency as Bluetooth. This was clearly another attempt by Phil to absolve himself of any blame for his lack of skill, and coming off as a pseudo-intellectual.
  26. Despite claiming he doesn't follow any drama surrounding other content creators, Phil was quick to jump on the ProJared controversy to gain positive attention for himself, mainly out of spite over a rather innocuous tweet the latter made about him years prior. In addition, Phil decided to make a 2 hour long video "debunking" all of the things his detractors have said about him over the past decade. Debunking is in quotation marks because he really didn't debunk anything, instead trying desperately to deny every bad thing he has done over the years, and the entire video can be summed up with "That didn't happen!" without any sort of evidence to back up his claims. If anything, the only thing he did was remind his long time followers of the bad things he has done over the years, and educate the newcomers to the kind of person he is. It really shows how desperate Phil is for any kind of "positive" attention in spite of being notorious for his venomous, negative attitude and behavior in general. After ProJared made his video telling his side of the controversy, one could look at Phil's actions retroactively and see his true nature as a content creator; he has proven that despite claiming there's no evidence of the things detractors have accused him of, he himself was more than happy to make a jab at someone else's expense without hearing the accused's story first, like most other creators. It also proves how spiteful Phil is, since the only reason he hopped on the bandwagon in the first place was because of a harmless tweet Jared made about him 3 years prior.
  27. He encourages back-seating, where the streamer gets unwanted advice in the chat, which results in a timeout or ban in most streams. Phil not only encourages this behaviour whenever he streams, but he is also very reliant on it. For example, he relied on the stream chat for the entirety of his Crash Bandicoot 2 playthrough, giving him hints on how to get the gems or access the secrets. Speaking of Crash Bandicoot 2, Phil out of nowhere decided to do a completionist run of the game, despite having never played it before in his life. While he claimed on Twitter that he wanted to be challenged (funny considering he hates challenge), many believe he did so to pad out the playthrough so he could get more money to finish it. It demonstrates that Phil is either too lazy, or he simply cannot do anything for himself.
    • As recently demonstrated in his Resident Evil 3 Remake playthrough, he will sometimes become so frustrated with a boss/challenging section that he will outright stop playing and/or threaten to quit the game entirely unless someone in chat tells him the solution.
  28. Phil's sense of humour is very twisted, childish, and even disturbing. He has been known to make toilet jokes, racial jokes, and crude sex jokes; if he doesn't repeat the joke an insufferable number of times, he will also laugh at his own jokes, both of which are comedy sins. Infamous cases of this include ruining Sniper Wolf's death in Metal Gear Solid, shoving the word "cocksure" into as many sentences as possible after seeing an NPC use it in his Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise playthrough, laughing at a severely wounded Clementine in The Walking Dead: Season 2, or the infamous "Space Nazis/Necromorph Jews" skit in the Dead Space 2 demo. In one of his PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds streams, when a member of the chat recommended that he watch the Netflix original series The End of the F***ing World, he stated that, after seeing the trailer for it, he refused to watch it because he thought it was, in his words, "Too British", while in his Persona 5 playthrough, he made fun of not 1, but 2 characters that are driven to suicidal breakdowns due to sexual/physical abuse for the first and having her mother assassinated for the second. During his playthrough of Crash Bandicoot: N Sane Trilogy, Phil made several obnoxious boob jokes about Tawna and how Crash should "marry Coco", despite the two being related. The latter only happened during his playthrough of "The Great Gate".
  29. His "game reviews" (KOGaming channel) are of the Irate Gamer (before Chris NEO aka Chris Tube) levels of bad. He'll knock points off for minor things, like difficulty he considers hard or lack of tutorials. He even gives games bad reviews because of his own inability to play them properly. His "Overwatch Tips" video is also the definition of a cash-grab, as it was clearly made just to capitalize on the Overwatch hype at the time. Phil believes you should finish the single player campaign, play the multiplayer, and generally do everything the game has to offer before making a review for it, yet if you judge some of his "reviews" by his own criteria, half of them don't even qualify as reviews.
  30. He has been doing "Redemption Runs" (according to him, a playthrough of a game without any game-breaking advantages - such as a powerful weapon - and no guide) of games he's played previously, but these tend to be as bad, if not worse than his initial runs. His first "Redemption Run," Dark Souls, had him breaking the rules that he established (no help, no overpowered weapons, no excuses) when he got an overpowered weapon thanks to his Stream Chat. He also uses a lot of excuses in this "redemption run", such as blaming From Software for his mistakes.
  31. He has vision problems but refuses to wear glasses because he claims that he doesn't need them. This may contribute to why he often misses some key details in games, mistimes his jumps in platformers, or crashes cars in racing games. This is made more evident whenever you see Phil leaning forward and squinting as he tries to read the on-screen text.
  32. He's broken countless controllers and keyboards in anger during his various playthroughs. This could be why the controls in games supposedly don't work when he plays them. In one instance, during his playthrough of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, he broke his controller and then blamed Sony for it (his exact words were: "Sony, don't approve of these really frustrating games on your console, then I won’t smash my controllers on my table.").
  33. He has recently defended the upcoming flim Cuties which was been highly criticized for its sexualization of young girls. However, this is based on what he read on Twitter, as he doesn't even bother to do any kind of research, instead just parroting what others have said. Still, this doesn't change the fact that he defended a flick that sexualises minors.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. It is reported that he used to be a likable Youtuber with decent content in his first two years, during 2008 and in early 2009.
  2. When he is genuinely angry, it is actually quite amusing simply because he acts like a complete doofus.
  3. Even when Phil screwed up in a game that he played with John Rambo, the exchanges between them were downright hilarious.
  4. He has had some genuinely funny moments in some playthroughs; such as when he killed a boss in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood by kneeing him in the groin and knocking him into the water, or any time he encounters actual glitches.
  5. He managed to beat Cuphead without ragequitting. He also managed to beat the infamous "Stormy Ascent" in Crash Bandicoot (though not without dying 54 times).
  6. Some of the stuff he says is rather humorous, especially when it can be spliced in with Phil's pre-streams any time he berates someone, tells a lie, or talks about money.

"Legacy"

Due to the above issues and Phil's overall negativity, DSPGaming has become infamous and has been made fun of in countless YouTube videos.

The very first "This Is How You DON'T Play" video

Probably the most famous video is "This Is How You DON'T Play Metal Gear Solid 2", a montage video made on February 3rd 2012 by former DSP fan, EvilAJ2010. He made the montage after Phil deceitfully claimed his MGS playthroughs got positive feedback, by trimming down 68 videos worth of gameplay into an hour long parody interlaced with comments from Phil's own playthrough to disprove said claims. Since then, hundreds of TIHYDP videos has been created, often amassing far more views than Phil's own content. The follow-up to MGS2, "TIHYDP MGS3" gained over 1 million views.

Phil's poor skill, lack of basic problem solving, and constant complaints about supposed "bugged game mechanics" have spawned several "DSP Experiences Bugged <topic> Mechanics" parodies. Using the Good Idea/Bad Idea segment from Animaniacs, the uploader will showcase their own gameplay beside Phil's, with the former finishing that segment in a few minutes, while the latter struggles with the same section.

The group called the "Sons of Kojima" often created podcasts discussing Phil's antic and making reactions to various TIHYDP's known as "Let's Endure". However, the group existed for only 3 years until September 2017 when the members disbanded after some rumblings of shady behind-the-scenes activity were leaked out. Snort Burnell, another detractor channel, uploads "DSP tries it" parodies, which focus more on Phil's pre-streams, often highlighting Phil's complete lack of self-awareness, lies, contradictions, and blatant hypocrisy. Though it has not been proven or confirmed, there are many people who believe that Phil is a chronic narcissist as he exhibits a lot of the signs and symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder; the most common ones being his sense of entitlement, delusions of grandeur, constant belittlement of everyone around him, and lack of empathy.

These days however, you'd be hard pressed to find people mocking Phil, rather psychoanalysing everything he says and calling out is lies. The only reason why detractors even continue to discuss Phil and his antics is simply because of his stubborn refusal to fade away. He continues to act like a manchild in front of thousands of people, and he takes some sick pleasure in watching other, often bigger content creators go down in flames since it apparently validates his own empty existence, and allows him to keep up his facade of feeling more successful than he really is. Now, Phil has been reduced to constantly begging for money from his viewers, expecting them to be there to pay his bills/debts for him instead of taking initiative and seeking gainful employment.

In the past, Phil's has claimed to represent the viewpoint of the common gamer, but as someone who constantly begs for money, blames everyone else for his failures, and has no people skills to speak of, most folks in the gaming community try to distance themselves from such a toxic personality as DSP. This could be a key reason why Phil isn't invited to conventions, no longer receives advances copies of games, and is sometimes refused sponsorship deals, all the while refusing to see that his own personality is the biggest reason for his downfall, not the detractors making videos on him. While it is true that Phil will leave a legacy behind, it won't be a positive one. When he does finally leave the internet, he will only be remembered as a lolcow; the guy who treated his fans poorly, made excuses for everything, pan-handled more than a homeless person, and got caught burping the worm on stream, all of which will have only earned him comparisons to the infamous Chris-Chan. Once he is finally gone from the internet, his infamy will live on, and another lolcow will take his place...it will happen. It's just a matter of when.

Despite his claims that he has never ragequit a game in his career, there is a 7 hour 32 minute long video showcasing around 103 DSP ragequits from 2009 to 2018 (see below).

Thing is, I think he did it on purpose. I mean:
A) Why would he consult Hans Jerkov in front of a camera, regardless of whether it was on/off?
B) The audio was muted, so he must've known the camera was on, and
C) His poor acting is so understated that you'd think it was an elaborate set-up to gain attention.
Now I'm not saying definitively that he did do it on purpose, but given that he'd do anything for money, I wouldn't put it past him to do so.

I can feel the downfall this guy had, but refuse to believe it. He costed everything he loved in order to get his way into life. He is stuck on this level in the game of life in which he continued to fail after 10 years, and hasnt rage quited because he put the responsiblity on everybody else, and begs his own minion fans to give him everything and prevent him from losing his last hopes. This guy fails to find out what he is struggling at, refusing one of Micheal Jackson's lesson, and soon will end up with a regret he will not forget.
