Mortal Kombat at E3 1995
At the first ever Electronic Entertainment Expo (abbreviated to E3), Mortal Kombat 3 was one of the games announced. However, the announcement itself is remembered more for being one of the first embarrassing moments of E3.
Despite the fact this happened at the very first E3 way back in 1995, there's absolutely no excuse for this comically bad introduction for Mortal Kombat 3. Midway was in the midst of rolling out its third coin-op Mortal Kombat game, and even though the series' popularity had peaked at the time, their on-stage unveiling is well remembered for being shockingly bad.
Most of the announcement was nothing more than a bunch of actors performing some laughable fight moves to some cheesy 90's rock music. It seemed more like an advertisement for Mortal Kombat merchandise (such as a film, a cartoon, a book, and a bunch of other stuff) than it was an announcement for Mortal Kombat 3.
To make things worse, the press representative babbled things like: "To make sure this MEGA event is also a MEGA success for retailers, Williams is tagging up this product release with the most comprehensive, fully integrated marketing program in the industry's history."
