Who thought that porting the mobile version to console instead original PC version was a good idea?
Genre: Sandbox, survival
Platforms: Xbox One
Release Date: September 19, 2017
Developer: Mojang
Microsoft Studios
Publisher: Microsoft
Franchise: Minecraft
Previous Game: Minecraft: Xbox One Edition

Minecraft: Bedrock Edition (also known as the Bedrock PlatformBedrock Codebase or Bedrock Engine) refers to the multi-platform family of editions of Minecraft developed by Mojang AB, Microsoft Studios, 4J Studios, and SkyBox Labs. Prior to this term, as the engine originated with Pocket Edition, this entire product family was referred to as "Pocket Edition", "MCPE", or "Pocket/Windows 10 Edition".

Except on the Apple TV Edition, for which the "Better Together Update" has not yet been released, all Bedrock Editions use the title Minecraft with no subtitle. Before the "Better Together Update", they had different subtitles on each platform, including Pocket Edition (for all mobile platforms), Windows 10 EditionGear VR Edition, and Fire TV Edition. Also, the original Java-based version of Minecraft has been renamed Minecraft: Java Edition.

Note: This article is only focusing on the Xbox One version rather than the Switch version and Playstation 4 version.

Why It Used To Suck

  1. It is literally the mobile version of Minecraft on the console, which is ill-fitting for a console.
  2. Paid mods (if you can call them mods. There's also old skin packs and texture packs in the mix), similar to Bethesda's Creation Club. Also, microtransactions are used to get Minecraft Coins, which are used to pay for the resource packs, and also for pets and other services on the sponsored servers.
    • This is carried over from the Chinese Minecraft server operated by NetEase.
  3. There are glitches that cause skins to not be rendered correctly.
  4. Some physics and mechanics are broken, unlike the Legacy Console Edition and Java Edition.
  5. Downgraded graphics from the Xbox One Edition, due to the game actually being the mobile version of Minecraft. For example, water after a certain distance now looks completely blue with no texture whatsoever.
  6. As this versions replaces the former Legacy Console Edition, the minigames were removed in this version, which basically destroys part of the multiplayer experience.
  7. The update felt rushed out the door for Christmas and the Xbox One X launch, as well as Minecon Earth, since there are tons of glitches and framerate drops.
  8. The game cannot be modded at all. If the Windows 10 and mobile versions of the game and the PC version can have custom texture packs, custom sounds, many mods, and the Legacy Console Edition can also be modded, why can't the Xbox One version be modded?
  9. Changed creative controls that are hard to get used to.
  10. Noticeable input lag that is greater than both Minecraft: Java Edition and Minecraft: Xbox One Edition. You will notice it, at least at first.
  11. The Legacy Xbox One Edition can no longer be bought digitally, and if you have never bought the digital version in order to download it, you're pretty much forced to buy a retail copy of the Legacy Xbox One edition now.
  12. The tutorial world has been completely removed.
  13. You can no longer try texture packs for free.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The addition of featured servers was nice for the console.
  2. At least this port is good now, along with the Windows 10, PlayStation 4 and Switch versions, but the mobile version is still mediocre though.
  3. There's cross-platform play.
  4. Infinite worlds make their debut on the console, and so is the ability to use keyboard and mouse controls.
  5. Increased render distance from the Xbox One Edition.
  6. Some players who played the mobile version of the game may enjoy.
  7. Resource Packs can be used in the game.
  8. Thanks to Xbox Game Pass, Mojang has reported there were 90 million monthly users.
  9. Texture Packs from the Legacy Console Edition makes return to Minecraft Marketplace.
  10. The port has been improving over time with newer updates adding more content and fixing bugs and glitches.
  11. You can still play the legacy console edition even if you haven't owned it prior.

A mobile game port, on a console. Better yet a game a like Minecraft. EVEN BETTER a AAA publisher like Microsoft and not a shovelware dev.

I play X360 version and original Non-Bedrock Nintendo Switch version. My opinions on new versions are mixed. Update Aquatic is the only update I trust, because its on Xbox 360.

Try playing on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and/or legacy edition if you want a decent Minecraft experience, however Update Aquatic is the last update on those platforms

If Microsoft fucks up the PS4 port of Bedrock Edition then I'm boycotting all editions (except original PS4 and Java) AND their future titles. I'm sick of Microsoft's PR garbage and they need to improve now. This is one of the many reasons why they're my most hated video game company.

bedrock has to be the worst Minecraft version ever, rushing updates, clunky UI, and i heard some people talking about input lag

Also, the save system is bad, because it doesn't save. E. g: I built a cinema with my friend, and when I came back, it was gone.

I can do nothing but agree with Caddyfan because as much as I love the franchise of Minecraft as a whole, I think bedrock edition was a bad stain on jts good reputation, so many things destroy bedrock, so for me

java is always the best choice of version

Welp. As of December 10th 2019 the PlayStation 4 version has officially been turned into this garbage. At least the console versions are better than mobile and the port has been improving over time otherwise I might have been going on a typical "MICROSOFT RUINED MINECRAFT!!!!" rant.

Ever since Minecraft PS4 got a Bedrock port Legacy Edition is pretty much dead right now when it comes to updates, I prefer more when Bedrock Edition was just Pocket Edition/Win 10 Edition/Education Edition and the Java Edition was the main edition(pre Better Together and the 1.2-present PE ingame UI is pretty much ass, the 0.9-1.1 ingame UI was better), but still Bedrock Edition isn't bad, I do play the mobile version of Minecraft BE(Bedrock Edition), local multiplayer and performance is better than Java's, crossplay(which Legacy console Edition and Java Edition don't have).

Imo this is a good version

Keep in mind that even to this day, this port (along with The Master Chief Collection) is still a large example of why rushing a game is never a good idea. Yeah maybe it did improve over time, but at what cost? And this was before Fallout 76.

Should i buy this version on PS4 or Xbox now that it has been patched and all the bugs are fixed? Or does the bad still outweigh the good?

I noticed too some horrible input lag on the PC/Windows 10 version. That problem didn't occur on Java or Legacy Console Editions.

Well, I still think Bedrock completely ruins the UI of Minecraft, thus making it very clunky navigating through the menus in the game.
