Ghostbusters II is a 1990 video game that was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System, based on the movie of the same name. It was published by Activision and developed by Imagineering. It was released only in North American and European markets.

Bad Qualities

  1. The sprites are poorly detailed. The sprites don't have very much detail into them.
  2. There is no way to pause your game. Pressing the Start or Select buttons, which would be the logical pause buttons, does nothing.
  3. Unlike other NES games, you have to press B to jump.
  4. The controls are overly complicated and poor. Controlling one of the characters is finicky because of how floaty the controls are.
  5. Catching a ghost is difficult. While you do have infinite Ghost Traps, it's easier said than done.
  6. Dodging obstacles is also difficult because of the aforementioned controls.
  7. To complete the last level, you have to play it four times.
  8. You don't even fight Vigo in this version. Instead, he's defeated in a cutscene.
  9. It actually prevented New Ghostbusters 2, a far better game, from being released in North American markets, because it would have caused confusion over this game.

Good Qualities

  1. The soundtrack by Frank Kovitz and Mark Van Hecke is quite good.
    • It also has a decent rendition of the Ghostbusters theme.
  2. Despite the poor sprite work, the background graphics are also good.
  3. For the most part, it follows the movie quite faithfully.
