Daytona USA is a racing game by Sega that was ported from the arcade to the Sega Saturn. The arcade version was very successful in the 90s and still grosses around arcades today. But the Saturn version was the complete opposite.

Why It Sucks

  1. Due to the Sega Saturn's rushed launch, the game also had to be rushed so it could be a launch title.
  2. Like other arcade games ported to consoles, the game has very little actual content.
  3. Poor frame-rate, the game literally never gets past 30 FPS.
  4. Crap-ton of glitches.
  5. Extremely low rendering distance, even by Saturn standards as Sonic R had a bigger drawing distance and still goes around 40-50 FPS.
  6. Poor collision detection, the AI cars sometimes get right through your car as if it weren't there, and you can instantly turn 180 degrees by hitting the corner of a wall.
  7. Unresponsive controls causing your car to oversteer and crash into a wall.
  8. Poor hitboxes.
  9. When you emulate the game on a phone, it just shows the "Three Seven Speedway"'s skybox, and nothing else loads.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The new Mitsuyoshi vocals were actually as good as the pseudo-made sounds on the Arcade version.
  2. New "Saturn Mode" and "Sound Test".
  3. Finally an Options menu.
  4. Dualscreen multiplayer support, and the ability to choose other cars than the "41" one.
  5. Despite having many flaws, it still managed to get on some of the "Best games on the Sega Saturn" lists, with Nights into Dreams and Panzer Dragoon topping them.

I'll say 1 thing about this port: It really made the music something special. The new instruments and vocals sound fantastic, imo better than the Arcade Version.
