2K Games, Inc. is an American game publisher that was founded on January 25, 2005. Located in Novato, California.

2K was founded under Take-Two Interactive in January 2005 through the 2K Games and 2K Sports labels, following Take-Two Interactive's acquisition of Visual Concepts that same month. The company serves as one of Take-Two Interactive's two publishing labels, the other being Rockstar Games.

Why They Suck Now

NOTE: Since 2K Games is owned by Take-Two Interactive, many of these reasons and actions are likely the result of executive meddling on Take-Two's part.

  1. Many of their recent sports games are loaded with microtransactions and lootboxes and heavily rely on pay-to-win mechanics.
  2. They are trying to persuade gamers in Belgium into getting lootboxes unbanned from games in the country. They were even desperate enough to ask Belgian gamers to ask the government to change gambling laws.
  3. Their sports games are heavily recycled each year, making them feel very copy pasted. They also tend to be buggy and barely functional.
  4. They bribed various game review websites to give their sports games high scores despite their numerous issues. When a game review site called The Sixth Axis gave the game a 3/10, they tried to pressure the website into altering the score.
  5. Even some time ago, they published poorly received games such as Family Guy Video Game!, Duke Nukem Forever and the Mafia: The City of Lost Heavens PS2 and Xbox versions.
  6. They forced an update for Civilization V that includes a new launcher that displays ads for Civilization VI, and there are many reports of people who can't play the game properly or at all due to the launcher selecting the wrong version of DirectX when booting the game. On top of that, the update has also been reported to contain potential security vulnerabilities.
  7. They recently added unskippable advertisements in NBA 2K19, a $60 AAA game.
  8. Their trailer for NBA2K20 was one of the most transparent and shameless instances of AAA publishers advertising that their games have gambling mechanics in them.
    • 2K continues to claim that loot boxes are not gambling despite their own trailer literally advertising gambling and Casino mechanics.
  9. Their WWE games (2K14 - 2K18), had their 2K servers shutdown, meaning you cannot download community content anymore.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. They are responsible for publishing great games such as the BioshockAGW the BorderlandsAGW series and various Sid Meier's Civilization games.
  2. They used to release very good WWE games (Except WWE 2K15, and up until WWE 2K20), and that many fans thanked 2K in making the WWE games after the bankruptcy of THQ.
  3. Unlike EA, They did support the Nintendo Switch by porting most of their games to the console. Even if that port of WWE 2K18 had negative reception. And when come to think of it, 2K and NintendoAGW have a much better partnership.

This is a good start but the page needs at least two other pointers to stay on the wiki.

I'm the one who made this page when the Wikia was still around. Thank you for your comment! I added 2K Games because of the whole Belgium lootbox debacle and the pressuring controversy, but I couldn't think of more reasons back then.

There must be some other events like that to list as reasons. Since the first three reasons are pretty strong reasons I think it is best to leave the page on the wiki.

I mean, considering the fact that they published most of the Bioshock and Borderlands games, not to mention the fact that they have a better partnership with Nintendo than EA could ever hope to have, I'm honestly not surprised by your statement.

I feel like it's mostly take two's fault they are this way. 2K are a great company by themselves imo.

You're probably right, in that regard. I've added a disclaimer on the WTSN section about that.

Are you fucking kidding me. 2K put in unskippable ads in 2K19? Well I can just play the 2K20 prelude when it comes out and buy NBA 2Ks for cheap.

So which company is responsible for this flaws, the company that put unskippable ads in their $60 AAA basketball game, or the company that both bought the above mentioned company and removed GTA 5's nodding system for a dumb reason?

First unskipabble ads, now sending employees to intimidate YouTubers. Yeah, that totally won't affect Borderlands 3 sales at all.

Hello, I have my own concerns regarding 2K Games and would like to propose a couple of edits.

1. When the issue of interactive gambling came up I spoke to the Australian Department of Justice about it and they agreed that it would be considered a form of child exploitation. Then there was Jim Sterling and his video on in game gambling where developers would actually attend seminars on how to get children addicted to gambling. Because it cannot be stated enough Ibwould like to propose an edit highlighting that it's kids 2K are targeting.

2. Their inability to take criticism full stop. 2K hated being called out on their business practices, hate the government stepping in, hate that they are criticized for begging gamers to demand 2K are protected and they become downright hostile when issues with their games are pointed out. Just look at the way Ronnie2K abuses fans, is offensive to fans pointing out the problems with the NBA and WWE games. Even showing a fault in their games, 2K hates being called out. I think this is well worth adding too.

Even if their microtransactions are ridiculous, it’s still nice seeing them getting along with Nintendo.

I'm actually worried about other great developers, if they would also go downhill.

Welp. The price of games had to increase eventually. But I'm not paying $69.99 for this trash. Just like I never do anyways.

Would the XCOM games go on here or the AGW?
