Goat Simulator is a simulation game developed by Coffee Stain Studios. It was released on April Fools' Day 2014 for Microsoft Windows and later ported to consoles and mobile devices. It was made as a joke and was made to parody the amount of poorly made simulator games on Steam.

Intentionally Bad Qualities

NOTE: This game is made as a joke because of its April Fools' Day release and the intent to mock all generic "simulation" games, and is intentionally meant to be bad.

  1. The game gets boring and repetitive after playing for a while. Once you've unlocked all the goats and found all the secrets, it gets very boring.
  2. Tons of bugs and glitches. Characters often get stuck in walls, go flying for no reason, etc.
  3. Weird physics.
  4. It crashes a lot. There is even an achievement for crashing the game (thankfully, the random crashes are entirely patched out and the only way to crash the game now is through a console command, or (if you're lucky enough) by a low-end PC).
  5. Bad collision detection. When you fall from a high point, sometimes you will go through the map when you land.
  6. Lots of outdated jokes and internet memes. Even in 2014 some of the jokes were already getting stale.
  7. Framerate issues on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch versions.
  8. It blatantly stole assets and aesthetics from Nyan Cat and Flappy Bird to make Flappy Goat (one of the playable games in the game) and its accompanying the achievement Flapmaster.
    • Even the mobile port of Flappy Goat is a ripoff of Flappy Bird, down to its controls.
  9. The bike is extremely frustrating to control and you fall down easily.
  10. On the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 ports, you can only have 2 player splitscreen. But on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 ports, It allows 4 player splitscreen despite being released on the same day.

Good Qualities

  1. It is very fun to play, albeit still a time-waster, especially when you play it for the first time.
  2. It is very cheap when it goes on sale (a disclaimer to buy the game when it is on sale), while the Android version of the game is free, despite having microtransactions.
  3. It has lots of DLCs that are actually quite fun and probably better than the base game. Heck, it even has a PAYDAY 2 DLC!
  4. Engaging ways to play with the weird ragdoll physics (if you're into that sort of thing) and while the running joke gets old, the whole joke that focuses on goats can be explored, making things all the more interesting.
  5. Thankfully, the game itself has a disclaimer on the website saying it's "broken, stupid, and unfinished" and it tells you to do something more useful with your spare time; which makes it self-aware, like "learning a new foreign language or making friends with GOATS!".
  6. Doing certain tasks give you different goats and you can select them anytime (but on the mobile versions you can choose them, while you must repeat the tasks in the PC version every time you start a new game to get them and there is no goat selection screen, like the mobile version). The nicknames for some of them (like "Tall Goat" for the giraffe, "Giant Goat" for the whale, and "Classy Goat" for the penguin) are hilarious.
  7. The game could be considered to be "so bad it's good", since as mentioned previously, it's meant to be bad.

The game received mixed-to-very negative reviews from both critics and gamers. Some say that the game is good thought it was funny. The people who hated the game say that it is unfunny, broken and overpriced, and say the only reason it got popular in the first place was that a lot of famous YouTubers like PewDiePie, and Jacksepticeye, played it.
