Elite Forces: Vietnam 2: Special Assignment is a 2001 First-Person Shooter developed by Single Cell Software and published by ValuSoft. It is the sequel to Vietnam: Black Ops and it is the second installment in the Elite Forces series.

Why It’s Not Elite or Special

  1. Dated graphics. The game came out in 2001, but looks like something that came out in 1997.
  2. Lots of glitches including the game locking up every few seconds on certain levels as it attempts to load in a lightning effect and also collision detection bugs that cause the player to fall through the floor and walk through walls.
  3. Very inconsistent difficulty. Some areas are a complete joke while others are almost impossible without quick saving every five seconds.
  4. Speaking of difficulty, the game gets very hard at points even on the easy difficulty due to things like scarce ammo and health pickups and cheap enemy placement.
  5. Bad hit detection for your weapons. On top of this, many of the guns you get are inaccurate in general.
  6. Most of the weapon models are recycled from the first game.
  7. Very annoying enemy sound effects that could be considered racist in nature. Most of the enemy dialogue sounds like the developers mumbling "Asian sounding" gibberish and the death screams are also very inhuman sounding.
  8. Enemies have almost pinpoint accuracy. It is almost impossible to walk away from an enemy encounter without taking damage.
  9. Both the friendly and enemy AI is basically brain dead. Both will usually stand in one place waiting to be killed by the player or an NPC.
  10. The allied NPCs that show up throughout the game are useless and can be killed by the player with no consequences.
  11. Stiff animations.
  12. Hidden instant death traps are in some levels resulting in unfair trial and error gameplay.
  13. The final boss is a joke.
  14. Almost no story.
  15. Poor voice acting for the main character.
  16. While some of the level design is okay, some levels in the game are designed very poorly. One level is covered in a thick layer of fog that makes it very hard to see the enemies. Despite this, the enemies in this level continue to shoot the player with pinpoint accuracy.
  17. When the game isn't annoying, it is simply boring due to the one-dimensional gameplay.
  18. Enemies deal way too much damage. Even on easy, if you don't have any armor, a basic enemy can melt your health bar in seconds.
  19. The game is worse than its predecessor in nearly every respect.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. As mentioned before, some of the level design is okay.
  2. While not a positive when compared to actual good games, the game is better than most of the other titles in the Elite Forces series.
