BioShock is a 2007 first-person shooter video game developed by Irrational Games and published by 2K Games for Microsoft Windows, macOS, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. The game was released to critical acclaim and led to a whole series of games in the BioShock series. However, in 2014, a mobile port of the first game was released for iOS, with fairly underwhelming results.

Why It Shocks Badly

  1. Slippery and imprecise controls, thanks to the main method of control being touchscreen.
  2. In order to run on the less powerful phones of the time, the graphics and visual quality took a massive hit, resulting in blurry textures and a low render distance.
  3. Input lag between when a button is touched and when the action in question is actually performed.
  4. The port suffers from rather noticeable slowdown during certain areas.
  5. It refused to work on iOS version 8.4 and above, requiring 2K to pull it from the App Store. It has not received any patches or bug fixes since then.
  6. The ability to jump was removed.
  7. Confusing and cluttered HUD, especially on phones.
  8. The launch price was $14.99.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. It's the entire game of BioShock playable on your phone or tablet.
  2. If you're not a fan of touchscreen controls, they do give you the option of using a Bluetooth gamepad.
  3. It includes a BioShock artbook free of charge with the game.
