BFDIA 5b
BFDIA 5b.PNG
Well, BFDIA 5b is going to become a game. Ain't that awesome... but wouldn't it take longer to make it as game than still making it as an animation?
Protagonist: Freesmart
Genre: Puzzle
Platformer
Platforms: Adobe Flash
Release Date: February 11, 2013
Developer: Cary and Michael Huang
Publisher: Cary and Michael Huang
Made in: United States
Franchise: Battle for Dream Island
Previous Game: BFDIA 5a
Next Game: BFDIA 5c

BFDIA 5b is a flash game made by Michael and Cary Huang (known on YouTube as jacknjellify). It was released on February 11th, 2013 on the HTwins.net website. It serves as an episode of Battle for Dream Island Again, which instead of being animated, got turned into a game. The game has you playing as members of FreeSmart, who got eaten by Evil Leafy in the previous episode.

Plot

Book starts out lost and forgetful of recent events. After realizing she has been eaten by Evil Leafy back in BFDIA 5a when she was in the Freesmart Van, she ventures out to find the other members of FreeSmart. In order to rescue them, Book has to get out of some sections by solving some puzzles mostly focused on moving objects and on/off switches.

After rescuing Match first, both the latter and Book have to team together to finish some sections to find the other members of Freesmart afterwards, including Ice Cube.

Bad Qualities

  1. The game looks rushed, resulting in many of the other issues below, and also was never finished. The last finished level is just an apology message from Cary about not being able to make levels fast enough and promising to make more in a week or so, which to this day still hasn't happened (possibly due to BFDIA 5c already being released before that schedule).
  2. Infamously hard levels. Most of them consist of making perfect jumps or other movements to reach another platform or get win tokens. Most of them can also be hard to understand how to complete them, which would make players watch playthroughs in order to understand how to clear the levels. Many of them also don't have checkpoints, which can force you to die, restart, die, restart, and die and restart before you actually finish a level in general.
  3. Generally the gameplay is just a generic puzzle platformer.
  4. The video announcing its release can confuse some people. The video is just titled BFDIA 5b, and the video itself just says "It's here". To people who aren't aware that 5b is a game, this can be confusing and make the video look more like some troll video. However, the thumbnail was eventually updated to say that 5b is a game.
    • Speaking of the new thumbnail, the new thumbnail is strange, as it's a picture of Coiny and Firey with large butts.
  5. No sounds to coincide with gameplay at all. There isn't any voice acting for the dialogue either, which makes the game quite boring.
  6. When you die, the level doesn't restart on it's own. You have to manually press R on your keyboard.
  7. The earthquake effects, especially when they occur every time you enter a door to finish a level can be annoying.
  8. It doesn't really contribute to the plot of the rest of the show.
  9. It also didn't even explain what happened to Golf Ball, Tennis Ball, and Rocky, who also got eaten by Evil Leafy in 5a.

Good Qualities

  1. It still can be enjoyable to play for huge fans of BFDI despite its flaws.
  2. Great graphics, and it runs at fluid 60FPS.
  3. There's a famous (hard to perform) trick that allows 2 characters to fly by picking up and throwing each other, then picking up and throwing each other, and so on.
  4. Besides of not having sound, it still has music, and it's a relaxing version of the one in the trailer video of the game.
  5. While the title screen said that the level creator and explore would be available on March 4, 2013, but it never happened, the SWF file that runs the game and the text file that generates the levels were leaked to the public. This leak finally allowed players to make their own levels for the game!
  6. Also, the levels are generated using said .txt file, with the tiles and objects being generated with specific characters. Because of that, it's very easy for players to create their own levels for that game.
  7. The other characters that weren't present in the original levels such as Pencil, Bubble and Ruby were also found in the coding of the levels. Edydude, a Romanian YouTuber, made his own level set for BFDIA 5b thanks to all those mentioned leaks.

Game Download Links

Due to the discontinuation of Adobe Flash Player in January 12, 2021, it is no longer possible to play it on the HTwins.net website. However, it is still possible to download via the links down below.

Running the game requires the .txt file that stores the levels, so download both the .swf and levels files, and store them on a new folder.
